We Co-create Our City Gellerup is an educational project for youth that identifies underused potentials in planning and architectural processes to support agency and citizenship, while also addressing key challenges such as a lack of diversity in design education and practice, and the need to rethink so-called inclusive participatory processes.
The project is set in the Gellerup housing estate in Denmark, which has undergone a massive physical and residential transformation process as a result of the internationally debated Ghetto Law, that was deemed discriminatory by the Court of Justice of the European Union in 2025, and the Physical Development Plan.
The book advocates for the built environment's important role in embracing complexity and nurturing fundamental democratic values; critically motivating the project while also including presentations of the work created by the youth from the housing estate and their reflections.
